Icon Luncheon Featuring the Hon. Gordon Campbell
NAIOP Vancouver will be featuring its annual Icon luncheon on Tuesday, December 9 at the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel, at 11:30 am to 2 pm. Our featured Icon speaker this year is the Honourable Mr. Gordon Campbell, High Commissioner for Canada. He will be in discussion with David Podmore, Chair of Concert Properties.
About the Speakers
High Commissioner for Canada
Gordon Campbell became Canada's High Commissioner to the United Kingdom in September 2011.
Prior to his appointment, Mr Campbell served three terms as Premier of the province of British Columbia, during which time he was ranked best fiscal manager among Canadian premiers by the Fraser Institute.
Mr Campbell began his political career in local politics in Vancouver, where he went on to serve as Mayor for three successive terms and spearheaded key urban regeneration projects and ground-breaking initiatives in literacy and cultural diversity.
A Vancouver native, Mr Campbell studied English and Urban Studies at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire and completed his MBA at Simon Fraser University in British Columbia.
He spent two years teaching in Nigeria with the Canadian University Service Overseas where he also coached championship state basketball and track and field teams in addition to launching a major library restoration initiative. After his return to British Columbia, Mr Campbell founded a successful property development firm prior to entering
As Premier Mr Campbell was recognized for his leadership on climate change issues and his reconciliation initiatives with Canada's First Nations. He was recognized as a champion of Canada's highly successful 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in Vancouver and Whistler, British Columbia. Mr Campbell worked to ensure that the 2010
Olympics were not just about the city of Vancouver, but were a Games that all Canadians could celebrate and call their own.
Mr Campbell brings a reputation for innovation in public policy and an ability to build and strengthen partnerships to
his duties as Canada's High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.
Chairman and CEO, Concert Properties Ltd
David co-founded Concert Properties Ltd with Jack Poole in 1989. He holds a Bachelor's Degree specializing in community and regional planning from the University of British Columbia and a Master's Degree (Earth Sciences) specializing in urban planning from the University of Alberta. He is a Registered Professional Planner (MCIP), a professional member of the Real Estate Institute of British Columbia (RIBC) and a professional member of the Real Estate Institute of Canada (FRI). David has served as Chair of the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) Foundation, President of the Urban Development Institute of BC (Pacific Region), member of the BC Progress Board, Chair of the BC Children's Hospital Foundation and spent eight years as a director of the Canadian Tourism Commission. He currently serves as a director of Fortis BC and Lifelabs Inc.
David is the first recipient of the Award of Excellence established by The Real Estate Institute of BC, and in 2003 he received the Community Service Award from Volunteer Vancouver. In 2005, David was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Technology from the British Columbia Institute of Technology.
