This is the third and final
installment of our ongoing Industry Leaders Blog series with
John McLernon, Honorary Chairman and Co-Founder of the Colliers
Macaulay Nicolls Group of Companies. NAIOP Vancouver asked him
about his plans for the future.
-------------------------------------------
At 72 years of age, John has accomplished much in his lifetime.
Is it time now to settle down, and potentially join the PGA Tour?
NAIOP Vancouver asked him, "where will you be in 10 years?" He
responded:
I hope on this side of the grass [laughing]. Right
now I am still at Colliers in lesser capacities, and I sit on 6
corporate boards other than Colliers. I think the project I am most
involved in today is helping to solve the homeless situation in
Vancouver. I have been chair of Streetohome since we started in
2008. It has a most prestigious board and has raised
significant money for a most difficult issue. I am also
Vice-Chair of the Vancouver Foundation - Canada's largest community
foundation, as well as Western Chair of Portage a residential
addiction treatment centre for youth 18 and under at Keremeos.
Those are the things that keep me active, as far as I can see.
I don't look ten years at a time, but if I'm still
enjoying it in five years, it will probably morph a bit
differently... But I'm not going to play golf every day for the
rest of my life. I like it like everything else, but to say I'm
going to spend the next five years of my life playing golf - forget
it - you'd miss the business relationships, the corporate building
strategies and the progress, all of those things. I am not
going to make the PGA Tour - that's one project I would not guess
that I would fail, I would know for sure! [laughing]
Well John, with a career such as yours, you wouldn't be
surprising any of us if you did.
